Family - Is it just me, or was 2025 only, like... three weeks long?

Time is flying.

Times are changing.

The social media comment section is as lit as ever.

And I know I'm not supposed to read the comments, but... am I the only one who likes to know what the streets are saying? πŸ˜†

On a serious note... If you are paying attention, you can see that human kind is having a hard time getting along. Everything is controversial. We build people up and then turn around and tear them down. Why are we like this?

My late sister Jewel was a child psychologist in Oklahoma City. She and I had similar experiences of leaving Liberia and moving to different countries (German and the United States), having to navigate life while feeling like outsiders. The sting of rejection, while it was painful at the time, gave us a type of empathy that others don't always seemed to have. In 2013, this experience sparked the idea for something very special that I want to share with you today.

Lily's New World

I have written a children's book called, "Lily's New World: An American Story." It's picture book about courage, culture, and connection. In a fun and engaging way, I open up about my childhood experiences in hopes to inspire empathy in a new generation.

Lily has just arrived in America from Liberia with her family β€” and everything feels new, loud, and confusing. From unfamiliar food to classmates who don’t understand her, Lily must find her voice and a way to belong in a brand-new world.
Told with warmth and honesty, Lily’s New World invites young readers into the tender journey of a brave little girl learning to embrace who she is and share it with others.

Perfect for ages 4–8, this beautifully illustrated story is ideal for:

  • Children navigating big life changes (moving, immigration, new schools)
  • Families who value cultural pride and representation
  • Classrooms celebrating multicultural learning and community

Lily's story is loosely based on my childhood experience of arriving in the United States at the age of five (depending on how long you've been rocking with me, you may remember the eBook "Little Alien, of which this book is a spinoff). Before her passing, my sister used her insight in psychology t develop the book's themes. I truly hope it will become a tool for healing, starting with the youngest of us.

I shared my vision for the project to connect children of different cultures on social and someone commented, "Kids don't need this woke nonsense." Let's prove her wrong. This is exactly what we need right now.

I hope you will get a copy for yourself or the children in your life.

Sincerely,

Ashley Aborisade

A focus on health and a shift in lifestyle.

Greetings family! Why is it sometimes that we don't appreciate things until they're gone? This can apply to people, environments, or even our health. I don't know about you, but it's only when I'm feeling sick that I start to appreciate the true BLESSING that HEALTH is. And because of that, you can add me to the list of people who are attempting to make big shifts this year! I recently transitioned to a plant-based lifestyle, meaning I'm cutting all types of meat from my diet. My reasons are...
